Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when it is speaking to me.

Remember before you hit me
that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones of your hand but that I choose not to bite you.

叱る前によく考えてみてね
そうなる原因がなかったかを

Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate, or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me.
Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, or I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart is getting old and weak.

ともに歳を重ねていく中で 私が老いてしまっても世話をしてね

Take care of me when I get old; you too will grow old.

最期のときは 必ずそばにいて　安心させてね

Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say I can't bear to watch it or let it happen in my absence.
Everything is easier for me if you are there.

「犬の十戒」とありますが、戒めといったものではなく、
犬を飼う時に、飼い主が覚えておいて欲しい、犬からのおねがいといったものです。

そもそも、犬の十戒（The Ten Commandments）とは、
ネット上で広がった作者不明の詩です。
サイトによって、原文も違ってきています。
どんどんひろがるうちに、少しずつかわってしまったのでしょう。

犬の十戒の本当の原文はわからないけれど、犬への優しい気持ちは、今も伝わっています。

日本語の訳は、英語の原文から読み取れる内容を、やさしいことばに置き換えています。
